About Lumavra

What it is for

Naming something is two problems wearing one coat. The first is running out of ideas. The second is that the ideas you have are impossible to compare, and the people you want to ask keep suggesting new ones instead of judging the old ones.

Lumavra is an AI tool built for both. The AI generates candidates, works out what each one means and where it comes from, and sets them against each other so they can be compared rather than merely listed.

What it does not do is decide. Suggestions are ideas, not facts - meanings, origins and associations can be incomplete or wrong, and a name that is free in one language is taken in another. The last step is yours.

Not only baby names

A project in Lumavra has a kind - a baby, a pet, a company, a product - and it keeps that kind for life. That is not a category label: the suggestions, and the checks that run over them, differ per kind, and a project that could change its mind halfway would carry names chosen under rules that no longer apply.

Where your work lives

The names you keep, the ones you discard, your favourites and your ratings are stored by the app on your iPhone. They are not synchronised to a server, which means they are also not readable by us.

What does leave the device is what has to: the description you give when asking for suggestions, and - when you invite someone - the names you chose to share with them.
